Mosaics - Add colorful artwork to your living spaces
Summer is full on approaching and socializing seems to be acceptable again (thank god!). Beside adding beautiful planting (yep now is the time to prep your garden for the summer months), maybe a new BBQ area or a fire pit for gatherings…how about adding some patches of additional colors, pattern and shapes to your landscape?
The magical word is MOSAICS. Those small pieces made out of tile, marbles, glass, ceramics and mirror materials are a wonderful way to create your own masterpiece. All you need is a vision (or get some inspirations on pinterest, etsy and so on) and the surface for your art piece.
Our company has been doing mosaics for a long time and they really are a game changer in giving your living spaces a unique addition that we can promise you won’t go unnoticed at your next party or family get together.
So let’s get our hands working! Here is a list of some supplies that you will need to get started:
a bucket for water
a cleaning rag & sponge
mosaic pieces in any colors that you would like (make sure to do calculations beforehand on the square footage that you decide to cover so that you won’t run out of your pieces mid project) A great and reasonable priced website to purchase all your glass and ceramic mosaic pieces is https://mosaicartsupply.com/
tile mortar (you can use white or grey), this brand works great:
Grout for sealing the cracks afterwards (NOTE: There are a lot of different grout color, best is to match the color of the backing the mosaic is on)
To start off you need to make sure that your backing is cleaned and as even as possible. If the background is not even it will make the mosaic uneven and hard to apply the grout as well.
Now mix your mortar with just enough water to get a paste like substance, not too thick but also not too runny since the mosaic pieces won’t be able to stick and everything will run down your backing like some ice cream on a hot sunny day. the next step really depends on your confidence of free styling your design or if you are more of a play-it-safe personality you can always draw your design on the background with pencil or marker and decide on the color composition beforehand as well.
Once your design is completed, let everything dry. You can wash off any leftover mortar on the mosaics with water and a soft sponge. After the mortar dried completely you can apply the grout thin and evenly to fill the cracks of your new master piece.
