Perennials - What they are and which ones to get

We see it all strolling around our local garden store - annuals, perennials and biennials posted on those little signs placed somewhere in the soil of each plant. But what exactly are those differences and more importantly, which ones should I pick for my backyard? Years ago when I first started enjoying the beauty of plants in my own outdoor space, I wish I had some guidance since it becomes a great game changer to know what exactly you are in for picking your plants.

Perennial plants, also just referred to as “perennials” are plants that live more than 2 years (yay) which gives them the biggest differences between the shorter lived annual and biennial plants. Perennials bloom and grow over the spring and summer, die every fall and winter and then regrow again. The blooming period is in not quite as long as for annuals but at least you are reassured of having the same beautiful plants growing back the following year, which also makes the decision of adding perennials a great investment.

Now let’s talk business: which perennials are an absolute must have?

If you are all about adding your own herb garden to your outdoor space, these herbs will not disappoint you in their appearance, fragrance and functionality:
